Art Museum Accessibility App

The David Owsley Museum of Art is a tri-story art museum located on the campus of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Packed with historical and modern works, there should be no limitation to who can experience the century old museum in person.

This app was designed to increase the museum’s accessibility, especially for nuerodivergent visitors. That includes a clean, easy to navigate interface, full artwork index, customizable paths to follow through the museum, and FAQs. Changes in lighting, unexpected issues, confusion on museum behavior, and getting lost can overstimulate and lead to anxiety. These surprises were minimized with integrated alerts that appear en route.

Clearly defined, delineated text makes content easier to digest and focus on for users on the autism spectrum. The design also gives users the ability to hide the amount of text being shown at a time, reducing overwhelm and confusion.
